Torque Measurement

RANGE OF EXPERIMENTS TO BE CARRIED OUT :

  • To study the Torque Measurement using Strain Gauge.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION :

Here a specifically designed Torque Sensor is fitted on a ‘C’ channel based frame work. This Torque sensor is having a dumbbell type of shape with Strain Gages pasted on it as sensing elements. These strain gages fitted on proper axis of this dumbbell shaped mechanical part will experience & sense the actual Torque to measure. For better demonstration as well as calculation, a 1 mtr long lever is attached to this Torque Sensor. So vertical loading to generate required Torque is possible. Though this arrangement is capable of sensing Torque in any direction – Upward Or Downward, from student’s usage point of view, only downward directional loading is allowed. This simple mechanical set up is further provided with a ‘Weight Pan’ type arrangement to apply the Uni-directional load .Here a standard as well as well known Instrumentation Amplifier based design is implemented. Because it is the most suitable way to process the output from Whetstone’s Bridge type Transducers. Basic Tare Or Zero adjustment is provided to nullify the initial Torque if any.
